Durban Hip Hop group Palm Tree Paradise has made it no secret regarding the members going solo. With members such as Axsion and P-Dogg dropping solo efforts, June follows suite with his attempt at a solo career with Brand New Things. I’ve always had my reservations when it comes to music groups focusing on solo careers, it often leads to them disbanding. But that really isn’t the topic at hand right now, June’s latest record is a different sound compared to the laid back sounds of Palm Tree Paradise.

The record is cut from the fabric of the traditional metric of Hip Hop, reflective sixteen bars either side of the hook. June is in the mood to carve out a brand new start, notably as a solo act, being the star of the show is a lot different than being in a group. At this point consistency is a vital component for the young rapper, with time on his side to grow musically, he has the potential to make some really exciting music. From a production perspective, the record is clean and the 808’s really set the mood, it’s a wavy track for the car on a Friday night. Looking forward to more work from June, stream Brand New Things above.
