Umlazi rapper Seazy XXL kicks off his year with the emotive and candid Toast Up (VaarNeMix) which is part of his remix series that he has been consistently producing throughout the latter parts of last year. His arsenal of remixes includes a catalogue of popular songs both international and homegrown. His latest effort feels like a diary entry of a young man that goes through the adversaries of life.

Seazy finds himself reminiscing on the single, painting a vivid narrative of himself starting out as a rapper with his friends. He even reaches back to memories of going to school where he’d share lunch with his close collaborator and friend Robin Thirdfloor. Seazy is meticulous in painting his story, where he briefly touches on key points of his life.

Casually touching on the culture of witchcraft that occurs in his hometown. The paranoia of living within that very culture and the desire to grow himself along with his craft led him to move out, he cites it as being a teary experience for him and his family. The culture of hustling and being self-sustaining is exactly what fuels Seazy to reach out for his dreams.

Throughout the song he manages to carefully talk about most of the elements around his life, doing work that he doesn’t enjoy just to keep afloat and being a college graduate but still having to work at call centres – a very relatable topic amongst the South African youth.
