We linked up with Durban singer and rapper Leodaleo to discuss his music and overall sound. Leodaleo gained notoriety when his friend and frequent collaborator Blxckie shared their story on Riky Rick’s Lab Live #11 on how they almost became homeless in Johannesburg. We wanted to know more about the mysterious melodic crooner and his music. “If you think Leo, just think rockstar. I do like crazy things and I try to put that in my music, I take it to the top, I try my best to stand out”. Leo describes himself.

Leo lists his musical inspirations to artists like Playboi Carti, Lil Uzi Vert and more. “I listen to a lot of Playboi Carti, Lil Uzi, A$AP Rocky and plus I’m a big Drake [GOAT] fan. I try and put that together to come out with what I make.” cites the young 20-year-old singer & songwriter. Often Leo’s music is laden with dark spacious melodies however he is no stranger to throwing in a few brash rap bars to complete his sonic makeup.

Leo grew up in Sydenham, a suburb west of central Durban. That’s where he met his friend Blxckie and they have been making music together since high school. “I started rapping when I was in grade eight, that was in 2016, that’s when I met Blxckie, After school, we used to go to Blxckie’s school because they had a whole studio there and we’d record. I can say that at the time we just made music for ourselves”.
