Duban based producer Soulkit visits theBelvedere Studios to give us some insight on his latest offering Dodge This. In this video, Soulkit discusses his music process and the mechanics behind the making of his brand new extended play.

He discusses what this EP means to him and how it best represents him as an artist and not just solely a producer. If you are unfamiliar with Soulkit, he is one of the producers responsible for songs by emerging hip hop superstar Blxckie, Leodaleo, Slim Ego and many more. Soulkit is also part of the Durban Hip Hop collective known as Clout Internet Boyz.

“People just knew me for songs I’ve produced for my friends. People like Blxckie, Leodaleo, Voltron, just Clout Internet Boyz. I felt like that didn’t fully represent me as much, I felt like I can do a lot more than that.” Soulkit explains his motivation to make Dodge This.

The project is littered with various features from artists that Soulkit frequently collaborates with. Boasting appearances from Blxckie, Slim Ego, Chris Snakes, Leodaleo and many more. “I knew I wanted to have my friends on this one, obviously not all of them on one song but I knew I just wanted them on this one”, says the Hip Hop producer.

Dodge This is Soulkit‘s first-ever project, this marks the beginning of a new journey for the 26-year-old producer who started making beats on Fruity Loops nine years ago. “Dodge This is not just beats, it’s actually good music.
I managed to get really good artists to help me make really good music out of those beats.” says Soulkit.
