After her first sold out show, which took place in Durban at Khaya Records. Red Robyn followed that up by performing at this year’s Oppikoppi Festival. She now drops some new music, it’s been a while since we’ve heard new material from the R&B/Soul singer. The last was her feature on Missu’s Dilemma.
Jumper Cables is a two track EP produced by Red Robyn herself. It opens up with a dreamy guitar intro in the form of The Pits. The intergalactic song sounds candid and open, it’s just Robyn with her guitar and emotions pouring out. You pick up different phases throughout the song as it becomes more and more progressive. The record is layered with a thick texture of feelings and you can feel the soul in the record. The songs biggest strength is it sincere emotional appeal, Red’s vocals really peal through the layers of your heart on The Pits.
GLADIOLUS which is actually a plant found in the European Mediterranean, some parts of Asia and South Africa. The song is more spacey, bouncy and oozes a pop feel. The outro GLADIOLUS ties up the two song body of work so well. Listen to Jumper Cables above.
