The Durban edition of Muzi’s sophomore album launch for Afrovision took place at the Werehouse. The event was a free access event, all you had to do was RSVP and you were good to go. It got off to a slow start, since it was on Sunday evening, 6/05/18. But as soon as people started coming they really flocked the Werehouse.

Everything got underway with Muzi doing a candid interview. It was based around his musical journey that molded him to create his much anticipated follow up to Boom Shaka, which Muzi dropped in 2016. What inspired him, also touching on his stay in Berlin and what the Afrovision album means to him. He then proceeded to play the album for the first time. The first set was just him playing the album, with no explanation, letting the audience immense themselves to his brand new body of work. Muzi was deejaying the album for the most part, like how he usually performs. But when the crowd favourite – Nu Day with OKMALUMKOOLKAT played, he couldn’t help but sing along.

The second set became more informative and intimate, he’d play a song then describe how it came together, the featured artists and why they’re on Afrovision. He also opened the floor to the audience to actually engaged with him and ask questions. The crowd was interested in stuff like his working process, song writing flow. The most important point that he raised is that it’s best just to get up and do something yourself. Instead of waiting for someone to put you on. Finding cost effective methods to do what you love and Afrovision empitomised that point, the more he further elaborated on it’s creation.

The launch sponsored by Nandos had chicken on site to feed an entire army, Redbull kept everybody hydrated at the three and a half hour session, which saw majority of the crowd stay till the very end, other sponsors included Sony Music and VANS. Durban artists who were in attendance were BlackRose who features on the album, Robin Thirdfloor, Muzi’s close friend Aux Cable from WTF and many more. All in attendance were all proud what Muzi’s done and feel that he has set the bar really high. Muzi also hopes that the event can also generate unity and support in Durban and South Africa. Afrovision drops on Friday, 11/05/18 on all digital platforms.
