Afrovision – Muzi

Muzi’s Afrovision album has proven to be a staple on the internet since its release. Enjoying a positive reception, the DJ, Producer and singer dropped one of the most concise pieces of work. An album that resonates with the South African culture and digs deep into the roots of being an African child growing up in modern society. It’s by far the best work to come out of the first six months of 2018.

MMMMM Swayze – Vanity Of Man & Johnny Wxlf

MMMMM Swayze is the collaborative effort between Pretoria based artist Vanity Of Man and Kimberley artist Johnny Wxlf. The two linked up to gives us a mash up of Motown, Pop, Blues and Jazz. It possessed a mixture of many genres but still sounded like a project with a constant narrative. The synergy between the two artist is so natural and pure.

Shea Proximity – Orakill

Shea Proximity is an album from Orakill who’s part of a movement called 4PM based in Johanesburg. The album incorporates Jazz within it’s Hip Hop elements, it sounds like an important moment within South African youth culture. Orakill even goes to the lengths of owning the K-word throughout the album. It’s a beautiful album.

Wavy Baby – Una Rams

Wavy Baby  by Una Rams is one of the smoothest and cleanest bodies of work, the follow up to Pink Moon is just six songs long but oozes finesse and precision, from topics, to delivery. It is hands down one of the best projects on the internet so far.

Percussive Planet – Espacio Dios

Percussive Planet by Espacio Dios, he may have a Spanish name but he’s definity South African, translated to English his name simply mean “Space God”. On Percussive Planet, Espacio follows a very intergalactic theme and explores a variation of sounds throughout his EP and also features guest appearances from Anatii.

BONUSES:

Epoch – Vicci Martini

Vicci Martini is an unknown act to many. The Durban R&B crooner enjoys a very mysterious presence on social media. His debut EP Epoch is one of the best works to come out of Durban this year. The entire project is produced by Vicci himself, with no samples and original lyrics. Epoch is an enjoyable debut effort.

Zone 3 – RMBO

Zone 3 by RMBO is a mixture of House sounds, the crisp production it is Dance music and chill music at the same time. It’s definitely one of the purest gems to come out of South Africa. A sonically sound EP from a production perspective. If it’s not already on your playlist, you should check it out.
