Durban rapper Seazy XXL is back with a brand new single. He’s no stranger to dropping exclusives with us. His last release was in February with Toast Up. The Umlazi rapper pays homage to TKZee member Magesh as he manoeuvres effortlessly over a Ticotyt produced beat. Rapping purely in vernac’, Seazy takes you on a trip through the parts of Umlazi that he frequents.
Claiming his hood proudly, he definitely is rapping like someone who runs his town as he bravely puts a firm clutch on the fact that he runs it. With a sense of braggadocious energy that is matched by his rapping abilities. His ability to rap is hardly up for questioning but whether he can consistently do so is the real question.
On Magesh, Seazy firmly talks about penetrating the South African music industry. Armed with a sense of confidence through his rap capabilities, you can’t help but feel that his consistency will be key to actually helping him break down the doors that are being closed on him.
He explains elements of the song by saying “as much as we go through hard times, we still somehow find a way to enjoy ourselves and when we enjoy ourselves we do it to the fullest”. Overall Magesh is a product of Seazy’s environment and he embodies that well throughout the song while also paying his respect to his late friend that he used to make music with.
Aside from the feel-good factor and good raps that are presented on this record. Seazy manages to paint a narrative that draws you closer to his character, where he is from and where he’s trying to go. It’s those little things that begin to set him apart but again, can he do all of that consistently is the only question.
